List of XFL Teams 2023 in Alphabetical Order by Team Name

Below is a list of XFL Team Names alphabetized by team name (without the city). This list begins with the Battlehawks and is for the present-day (2023) teams.

List of XFL Teams With Championships

The XFL league had two seasons, in 2001 and 2020, and in both seasons, there was only one champion. Here is a list of the teams that have won an XFL Championship:

  1. Los Angeles Xtreme (2001)
  2. Houston Roughnecks (2020)

XFL History

The XFL is a professional American football league that was created by Vince McMahon, the founder of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), in 2001. The league had eight teams, and its inaugural season began in February 2001, with the championship game held in April. The XFL aimed to offer a more exciting, fast-paced version of football, with unique rules and innovations, such as the opening scramble for the ball instead of a traditional coin toss. However, the league struggled with low ratings and financial losses, and it folded after one season. In 2020, a new version of the XFL was launched, but it too folded after just a few weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

XFL Now And Into The Future

The XFL started up again in 2023 after the XFL and its assets were purchased for approximately $15 million in August 2020 by a group of investors led by actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, RedBird Capital Partners, and Dany Garcia, following the previous ownership entity’s bankruptcy filing. The previous ownership entity was led by Vince McMahon, the founder of World Wrestling Entertainment.

In February, the XFL announced a partnership with the NFL to experiment with proposed rules changes, test new equipment and develop prospective officials and coaches. There are no plans to have the XFL serve as a player-development league for the NFL.

Bleacher Report

Now with a partnership with the NFL secured, the future looks more stable with NFL now having a vested interest in the league. I will keep this post updated with the current XFL teams each year.

We also have similar lists for the NFL, NHL, and MLB.
