I started my search for the ultimate NBA sweater on my quest to find a piece of San Antonio Spurs gear my brother, a die-hard Spurs fan, didn’t already have. I no longer live in an NBA city, but I had always had my eye on some of the NBA Ugly Christmas sweaters. So I thought I would start there. The journey took me all over the internet to find the best selection of NBA sweaters. My hope is to help you cut down your research time by pointing you towards the retailers with the best selection and tips on how to get the best price.

What NBA sweaters are there to choose from? Here we review four different kinds of sweaters (Ugly, Christmas Vintage, and Cardigans) that you can wear to support your team and have some fun with yourself.
NBA Ugly Sweaters
Ah, the ugly sweater trend has made its way into team wear. Why on earth would the NBA jump on that trend? There’s a reason the “ugly sweater” trend has never fully faded since its start in the 1990s. They actually aren’t that ugly anymore. The NBA jumped on that trend and can make you look good at your next “ugly sweater party”.
Ugly sweater parties and contests are becoming a tradition, particularly around the holidays. What qualifies as an “ugly sweater” is a matter of opinion. Many NBA ugly sweaters are actually anything but. They have style, taste, and generally fit well, and fans who are looking for a “normal” NBA sweater may find something they like.
Nevertheless, unless someone knitted it for you, they are officially licensed NBA apparel. You can wear an NBA ugly sweater to your workplace “ugly sweater” party. It’ll be even better if your team is heading into next year’s season looking strong.

NBA Christmas Sweaters
NBA Christmas sweaters, ugly sweaters, and NBA team sweaters, in general, are starting to blend these days. We pulled a couple of Christmas sweaters off the virtual clothing rack that we don’t think can be considered “ugly” from a couple of different sites.
Golden State Sweater
They classify this one from Fanatics as “ugly” but I don’t think they have seen some of the truly ugly Golden State sweaters out there.
NBA Team Sweaters
Many of us want an attractive sweater with our teams’ names and logos on them. You feel no need to look fancy; you just want a good old-fashioned regular sweater you can wear to your friends’ houses on Game Day.
That’s where these sweaters come in. They’re simple, classic, and they go with everything except your best friend’s sweater since they like your team’s arch-nemesis. You can wear these with comfy jeans or shorts, athletic pants, or your favorite pair of sweats.
You already know the second-best part of wearing a team spirit sweater: Staying warm while displaying your love for your team. If you like to wear your sweaters and sweatshirts all winter and not just basketball season, and they’re wearing out, you should have no trouble finding a new one.

The NBA Vintage Sweater
Do you long for the days when your team was on top of the world, or maybe just for the day when their fan gear suited you? You might have some trouble finding vintage team apparel, especially at a reasonable price compared to throwback or retro apparel.
Wait, there’s a difference? Yes. The difference between vintage and throwback or retro styles is that vintage clothing was actually made during a specific period in the past. Throwback clothing is made in the present and may or may not use the same materials, patterns, and stitching the original garment used.
Nevertheless, NBA vintage sweaters are still fairly widely available and won’t cost you an arm and a leg. You’ll find a large variety of vintage NBA apparel here on Etsy, but remember, much of this is for resale, so be careful what you buy.

NBA Cardigan Sweater
If cardigans are your jam, you might have some trouble finding an NBA cardigan sweater because there aren’t many out there. As a matter of fact we couldn’t find any new cardigans. You may want to keep checking Mitchell & Ness as they at least had MLB cardigans.
If you are really set on it we found a couple on Poshmark and eBay is shown below (sorry if they are blank pictures and are sold but the links should take you to a search for other NBA cardigan sweaters).
Cardigans are a type of sweater that buttons or zips down the front. In women’s fashion, they also come without buttons and zippers on the front. Cardigans have a long history, even serving as part of battle uniforms for the military. However, they haven’t been in fashion for more than 50 years.
That may change soon, though. There are whispers that men’s cardigans are coming back into fashion sometime soon. Keep your eye out; you may yet be able to find an NBA cardigan sweater for your team that looks great and feels warm and cozy.
Other Fun NBA Apparel
NBA sweaters aren’t the only fun apparel out there. We all know about jerseys. Chances are many of us have at least one jersey honoring our favorite player–past or present–in our sports wardrobes.

Vintage and Throwback NBA Jerseys and Jackets
NBA vintage sweaters aren’t the only vintage or throwback clothing out there. If you’re feeling retro and going to a barbecue before a game, particularly a playoff game in hot weather, a throwback jersey might be just the thing you’re looking for.
Or maybe it’s cool outside, and you want to wear something different than your usual team jacket. Throwback jackets come in multiple styles, including leather-sleeve varsity styles and the popular satin styles from the 1990s.
You can even find throwback NBA nylon puff jackets, which will help keep you warm if you’re watching the game in your buddy’s garage or unheated man-cave.
You can easily find throwback jackets and jerseys at the NBA Store, Etsy, Fanatics, and Amazon, though the ones you find on Etsy might be vintage rather than retro or throwback and, thus, already worn.
NBA Team Spirit Jackets
Most people love the idea of having a nice jacket with their team’s name and colors. The jacket keeps you warm and identifies you as either a friend or foe to your friends and fellow NBA fans during a large chunk of the year.
These are easily one of the most popular styles of sports clothing out there. You can find team spirit jackets for every team in several different styles. Check out the NBA Store, Fanatics, and Amazon for new team spirit jackets.
